Former Lackawanna County Chief of Staff Elizabeth Randol, who ran a strong race for county commissioner two years ago, said today she plans to run for Scranton mayor.
The announcement comes as a surprise because for most of the last year Ms. Randol, a Democrat, has regularly denied any interest in running for mayor.
"You have very few times in your life when you have an opportunity to really step up to the plate and contribute and give back to the city that I dedicated myself to since the day that I moved here," Ms. Randol said.
The other Democrat likely to run for mayor, City Tax Collector Bill Courtright, is expected to announce his candidacy at a rally Sunday at the Keyser Valley Community Center.
