Mellow to report to prison by Friday
SCRANTON - Former state Senate Democratic leader Robert J. Mellow will have until Friday to report to a federal prison in South Carolina.
Under an order by Judge Joel H. Slomsky filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Mr. Mellow must surrender at the Federal Correctional Institution in Williamsburg, S.C., no later than Friday at 2 p.m. to begin serving his 16-month sentence for conspiracy. The 70-year-old former senator had been scheduled to report to prison Tuesday, but the date was pushed back because of a delay by the Bureau of Prisons.
Mr. Mellow has been assigned to the minimum- security satellite camp next to the Williamsburg prison.
