Man due trial in murder of wife
A Susquehanna County man will stand trial for the August murder of his estranged wife.
The one criminal homicide count lodged against Donald Glover Sr., 51, Thompson, was held for trial by District Judge Jodi Cordner on Monday, following a preliminary hearing.
Mr. Glover is accused of firing one .38-caliber bullet into the back of Sharon Glover's head following an argument in the driveway of his Way Lake Road home in Ararat Twp.
His son, Donald Glover Jr., 27, Susquehanna, faces evidence tampering and hindering prosecution charges after he allegedly placed a gun in Mrs. Glover's left hand in an attempt to back up his father's story.
On the witness stand, Susquehanna County Coroner Anthony Conarton said Mrs. Glover's death had been ruled a homicide.
Trooper Mark Keyes said Donald Glover gave differing accounts of the events that led to Mrs. Glover's death. In the first, given at the scene, he said his estranged wife, 46, had fired a gunshot at him, so he went into his home to retrieve a gun and returned fire.
The state police investigator said Mr. Glover later told police he fired one shot to the back of his wife's head following an argument. Trooper Keyes said a witness to the shooting said Mr. Glover's son's fiance had been summoned to the driveway by Mrs. Glover to write a check.
While she was leaning over the car writing the check, Trooper Keyes testified the woman said she had heard footsteps approach the vehicle and a single gunshot. The witness reported seeing Mrs. Glover's body slumped dead in the driveway.
Mr. Glover's attorney, Joseph McGraw, did not call any witnesses at the hearing. A formal arraignment has been scheduled for Jan. 22 in Susquehanna County Court.
Mr. Glover has been held without bail since Sept. 1.
Donald Glover Jr., waived his preliminary hearing, also scheduled for Monday. He is also scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 22.
