75 years ago, burglars broke into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Palmer of Adams Avenue and stole jewels and cash valued at $1,955. Police believed the heist took place in the early evening while the Palmers were out.
50 years ago, officials with the Pennsylvania Anthracite and Bituminous Mine Subsidence Fund released figures showing only five homes in Lackawanna County and 71 in Luzerne County were carrying mine cave-in insurance.
25 years ago, the Scranton Department of Public Works burned Christmas trees collected around the city, because the Keystone Landfill was closed and Amity Landfill in Taylor was nearly full.
