A spike in influenza cases at Wayne Memorial Hospital has prompted the issuance of a visitor flu alert at the facility.
So far, no additional restrictions on visitations have been put in place at the hospital in Honesdale, but the public needs to be aware they could be imposed in any unit at any time, spokeswoman Lisa Champeau said.
However, Wayne Memorial is asking people who have the flu or flu-like symptoms not to visit patients there.
"Visit another day or visit by phone," Ms. Champeau said.
Wayne Memorial has several sanitation stations where visitors can pick up a mask to wear and make use of hand sanitizer, she said.
Since October, the hospital has had confirmed 24 cases of Influenza A, compared to a total of three cases all of last flu season. There has also been an upswing in Influenza B activity.
