College kids help with toy drive
SCRANTON - In addition to collecting toys for St. Joseph's Center in Scranton, several students at Johnson College used their expertise to make some of the toys easier to use.
A number of Johnson College's senior biomedical equipment technology students spent time rewiring a talking doll and a walking dinosaur so the controls would be easier for disabled children to activate, according to a news release from the college.
Instead of small switches, which can be hard for disabled kids to operate, the toys now work at the touch of a large button, said Doug Hampton, chairman of the biomedical equipment technology program.
