Business card exchange held

More than 100 business professionals gathered at the American Red Cross, Scranton, for the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce holiday business card exchange.

Tour hosted: Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center's Consortium for Process Excellence and Innovation and consortium member company Weiler Corp. recently hosted a facility tour and industry discussion event highlighting Weiler's successes through continuous improvement initiatives. The discussion was led by Weiler President/CEO Chris Weiler, Vice President of Global Operations Jim Teeple and plant manager Gary Houman.

Bank donates: The Dime Bank, Honesdale, donated $10,000 to Lackawanna College in support of the Lackawanna College Environmental Institute. The Dime Bank's donation will be used to meet the mission of the institute's culinary and hospitality programs. These programs will allow students in the Lake Region to focus on sustainable growing and food preparation and their effects on the environment.

Ambassadors meet: WNEP-TV hosted the monthly meeting of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. Upon conclusion of the meeting, Jennifer Mican, WNEP account executive, and Don Jacobs, host of "Pennsylvania Outdoor Life," provided a tour of the WNEP-TV facility.

Bank supports library: First National Community Bank will donate a $4,720 Education Improvement Tax Credit to the Wayne County Public Library. The funds will help support online resources for students in grades K-12.

Fundraising campaign successful: The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train raised more than $1 million and 400,000 pounds of food for local food banks in Canada and the U.S. The 2012 holiday train program wrapped up in Port Moody, British Columbia. Making this year's three-week trek even more important was the support for Superstorm Sandy rebuilding efforts. At the holiday train event in Minneapolis, CP presented Feeding America with $250,000.
