Clarks Summit
An English literature teacher at Abington Heights High School recently wrote and published the final book in a four-part educational series.
On Jan. 1, Marilyn Pryle released "Writing Workshop in Middle School: What You Need To Really Make it Work in the Time You've Got." It's the fourth book she has had published by Scholastic in the past 10 years.
The 160-page book focuses on writing-workshop strategies, test-prep ideas and the importance of establishing routines and setting high expectations.
"This book is actually the one I originally pitched to Scholastic," Ms. Pryle said. "They wanted to narrow my focus with the first three books, before writing this all-encompassing kind of book.
"They were right; I love how it turned out."
Ms. Pryle said the book can be found on Amazon.com.

Jermyn
For the 10th year, the Jermyn Community Dinner will rally the borough to honor standout residents.
The dinner, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9, will include beer and wine, as well as an award ceremony for outstanding citizen volunteers.
Jermyn Events Committee President Katie Hosie explained that Mayor Bruce Smallacombe created the event.
"It was something he wanted to do to get the people of the community together," she said.
"From there, it just escalated, and we've been doing it every year."
Chance tickets will be sold for prizes ranging from $50 to $300. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased, before Feb. 4, by contacting JoAnne Wilson at 876-1477 or any events committee member.
Tickets are also available at Avery's Flower Shop and Debbie's Flower Boutique.

Old Forge
Local historian Margo Azzarelli has already tackled Scranton's Green Ridge section and Taylor in her Arcadia "Images of America" series, but she's not quite done yet.
Old Forge and Moosic are next in line because of numerous requests from residents of Old Forge. But she is in need of pictures from the 1870s to the 1970s to complete her work by April 1.
"Business photos, especially the pizza places in Old Forge," Mrs. Azzarelli said, naming the types of photos she needs. "Family photos, school photos, landmarks, churches."
There will be a photo scanning day at the Taylor Community Library on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Anyone with photos to share who cannot attend the event at the library may call 346-6179.
