NEPIRC announces new partnership
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center announced a new partnership with CoreValue Software that will make available business performance assessments at no cost to regional manufacturers. The patent-pending CoreValue assessment process uses a 90-minute management team interview and key financial performance indicators to evaluate a company's strength across 18 growth drivers.
Walkthrough held: In conjunction with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance Pennsylvania Energy Partnership Program and the Pollution Prevention/Energy Efficiency Roundtable of the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Professionals, the Northeast Pennsylvania branch of the Central Pennsylvania United States Green Building Council held a walkthrough of the Benco Dental Facility in Pittston about the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design aspects of their facility.
Nonprofit gives for Christmas: NEP Sno-Trails of Forest City, whose purpose is to operate, maintain, educate and enhance the snowmobiling experience through Wayne, Susquehanna and Lackawanna Counties, made a $500 donation to the Wayne County Children's Christmas Bureau.
Party hosted: Leadership Lackawanna hosted a "Mix, Mingle and Jingle" holiday party fundraiser at the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton. The fundraiser raised more than $2,800 to help support curriculum development for all Leadership Lackawanna's programs.
Award presented: The Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry, in partnership with Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and ChamberChoice, presented the 2012 Healthy Workplace Award to RCN Telecom Services LLC and the 2012 Continuing Excellence Award to Hourigan, Kluger and Quinn PC.
Students receive stockings: Representatives of Citizens Bank presented holiday stockings filled with gifts for the students and children enrolled in the Ruth Matthews Bourger Women with Children Program at Misericordia University. The stockings were stuffed with crayons, coloring books, toys, clothing items and toiletry items.
Charities receive gifts: Several local nonprofit organizations received presents from Sallie Mae in celebration of the annual "Day of Giving." Hundreds of gifts and $16,000 were delivered to 20 charities in the Wilkes-Barre area. The donations were made in celebration of the holidays and on behalf of 800 employees who live and work in the community.
Wound care center relocates: The Carbondale Wound Care Center and the six medical providers on staff have relocated to Wayne Memorial Hospital's Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, 601 Park St., in Honesdale.
Top score received: Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center was honored with an "A" hospital safety score by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.
Investment approved: The Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania board of directors has approved the investment of $354,876 in support of regional economic development. BFTP/NEP's goal is to help lead Northeast Pennsylvania to a better economic future by building partnerships that develop and apply technology for competitive advantage.
Feature added: First National Bank of Pennsylvania is enhancing its mobile banking service. Customers now have the added convenience of mobile deposit. The new service allows customers to deposit a check into their account by using an FNB Mobile App feature and taking a picture of the front and back of a check.
Donation presented: Employees of First National Community Bank presented CEO People Helping People with a $631 donation for its Food 4 Kids Weekend program. The funds were raised through the employee-sponsored Striking Out Hunger for Kids softball tournament held at McDade Park, Scranton.
Students learn to invest: More than 60 business students from Misericordia University and other regional colleges and universities competed in the Stock Market Game sponsored by the Kingston office of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, a full-service financial services firm headquartered in Philadelphia. Students participating in the contest were given 250,000 virtual dollars to invest in a simulated online portfolio and had to manage the funds effectively under real market conditions.
Renovation complete: The Inn at Pocono Manor has completed the $5 million renovation of the historic resort's main lodge, which originally opened 110 years ago. Renovations included comprehensive new floor, wall and window treatments for the building's large and original upper and lower lobbies, event and meeting rooms, the historic restaurant, the resort's popular Lamplighter Lounge, and all 190 main lodge guest rooms.
Bank donates: The Dime Bank employees purchased gifts for 19 children through the Wayne County Children's Christmas Bureau, with the assistance of a fund match from the board of directors. In addition, 13 Dime Bank employees volunteered their time to shop for Christmas Bureau gifts.
Credit union gives: Freedom Credit Union launched the holiday giving season by collecting nonperishable food and toiletries from its members. Freedom also donated $400 to St. John's Pantry in Hatboro. In addition, employees partnered with the Salvation Army and participated in its Adopt-an-Angel program, in which employees helped more than 25 children by purchasing gifts for them from their wish list. Freedom also had Toys for Tots bins at its various branches. A donation will be made to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
Toys donated: Senior students in Johnson College's biomedical equipment technology program donated toys to children at St. Joseph's Center in Scranton.
Assistance provided: UGI Utilities - Gas Division employees donated more than 240 gifts for children in the Greater Berks, Lehigh Valley, Lancaster and Harrisburg areas through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. They donated more than $1,600 to the Salvation Army to distribute to families in need this season, donated 50 coats to children in need through the Coats for Kids program, and volunteers also manned Salvation Army red kettles. UGI Penn Natural Gas, UGI Electric Division and UGI Central Penn Gas employees visited 68 children at three Head Start centers in the PNG and Electric Division service areas, bringing gifts and a visit from Santa Claus. Funds were raised across the UGI service area to help community-based organizations, which raised a total of $6,560 for food banks throughout the UGI Utilities service territory. UGI employees commenced their annual contributions to the UGI Operation Share Fuel Fund for the 2013 season. Operation Share provides funds to low and fixed-income consumers experiencing difficulty paying their utility bill.
Luncheon held: The Greater Scranton Women's Network luncheon was held at the Radisson at Lackawanna Station hotel in Scranton. Connie Pheiff of Connie Pheiff Speaks was the guest speaker. The event also featured a donation station for the Women's Resource Center shelter.
