Snö Mountain in Lackawanna County kicks off its ski season Friday morning.

With the help of a fresh snowfall, it is aiming to have eight trails, including the terrain park, and three ski lifts ready for opening day, general manager Mark Verrastro said Wednesday.

"We're making snow every chance we get," Mr. Verrastro said.

Snö Mountain's good news comes amid the company's attempt to emerge from bankruptcy reorganization.

Snö Mountain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in October. Investors and debtors claimed they were owed more than $9.6 million, and they also rebelled against Snö Mountain's president and general partner, Denis Carlson.

He was subsequently removed as the facility's top executive.

This month, a judge ordered the trustee overseeing the bankruptcy reorganization to hold an auction of the property by March 1 and close the sale by April 8.

The judge also ordered the trustee to begin the process of marketing the recreation complex for sale.

Snö Mountain spokesman Scott Tattar has said it is doubtful the sale will take place because Snö Mountain's owners and investors hope to stop that from happening by improving their financial state through the reorganization.

Last week, a judge issued an order allowing the Scranton ski and water park complex to borrow up to $497,585 to keep the facility operating this ski season as it runs the course of the reorganization proceedings.

Snö Mountain will open at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Mr. Verrastro said.

"We hope to have our best year yet," he said.

Elk Mountain Ski Resort in Susquehanna County also is open this week.
