Dealer supports youth soccer
Tom Hesser Chevrolet Inc. is supporting Abington Youth Soccer League through the Chevrolet Youth Soccer Program. This sponsorship will include both monetary and equipment donations during the fall youth soccer season. Chevrolet Youth Soccer is a grassroots initiative that establishes a positive relationship between local dealers and the communities they serve.
WNEP opens newsroom in Wilkes-Barre: WNEP has opened the Wyoming Valley Newsroom at 16 Public Square. The state-of-the-art HD broadcast facility is located in the Bicentennial Building in Wilkes-Barre, and is Newswatch 16's home base for coverage of the Wyoming Valley.
Chamber seeking candidates: The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is now seeking nominations for its 11th annual Business and Community Awards. The awards are given each year in order to recognize individuals and businesses that help to promote and support the Greater Hazleton Area. Nominations are being accepted for: Small Business of the Year; Large Business of the Year, Rocco Colangelo, Sr. Volunteer of the Year, Pride of Place, Healthy Workplace of the Year, Green Business of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. All winners will be recognized at a special luncheon program, sponsored by Luzerne County Community College, Oct. 25 at 11:45 a.m. at Top of the 80s in Hazleton. Foundation supports Misericordia program: Representatives of the Luzerne County Bar Association Charitable Foundation presented a check to the Ruth Matthews Bourger Women with Children Program at Misericordia University. The foundation is dedicated to the support of charitable and humanitarian projects throughout the county and to provide support for law-related projects, publications and education. The Women with Children Program was established at Misericordia University in 2000. It provides a place to live and a support network for single women with children pursuing an education.
Chamber and MetroAction seeking award nominations: Applications are now being accepted for the third annual SAGE Awards (Scranton's Awards for Growth and Excellence), from the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and MetroAction. These awards celebrate the outstanding efforts of the local business community and its talent, creativity and innovation. The deadline for applications is Sept. 12.
Company under new ownership: William Sullenberger, a business owner for the past 21 years, purchased Lackawanna Hardwood Floor to help expand and complement his existing tile flooring business. He received financial assistance through a $10,000 loan from MetroAction to purchase the company.
WVIA receives nominations: WVIA Public Media received three nominations from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences 30th Annual Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards. The awards will be presented on Sept. 22 in Philadelphia. The 2011 Challenger Exhibition Game, which aired live on Aug. 27 is nominated in the Outstanding Human Interest Program/Special category; the WVIA Original Documentary Film, "Remembering the Scranton Sirens," which premiered on Oct. 5 is nominated in the Outstanding Documentary category; and the State of Pennsylvania episode titled "Are Dikes NEPA's Answer?" which premiered on Sept. 15 is nominated in the Outstanding Interview/Discussion Program/Special category.
