Dunmore zoning board schedules landfill hearings

The Dunmore Zoning Board scheduled three public hearings to consider whether Keystone Sanitary Landfill’s proposed expansion violates the borough’s height restriction.

The hearings at Dunmore Community Center will be at 6:30 p.m. on three upcoming Thursdays: March 19, March 26 and April 2, the zoning board announced Wednesday.

The zoning board could schedule additional hearings if necessary or cancel meetings if there is less public interest than anticipated, zoning board solicitor Bill Jones said.

Friends of Lackawanna, a group opposed to the expansion plan, last month filed an appeal of Dunmore code enforcement officer Joseph Lorince’s preliminary opinion that the borough’s maximum height restriction does not apply to the landfill, among other issues and challenges.
