DUNMORE - Borough council unanimously adopted a balanced budget with no tax increase for 2013 on Monday night, a move that continues the borough's road toward stability.

In a 6-0 vote, council approved the $10.488 million budget. The borough's millage rate will remain at 54. A mill is a $1 tax on every $1,000 of a property's assessed value. Councilman Paul Nardozzi was absent.

"It's the third year in a row we're passing a budget without a tax increase," Councilman Michael McHale said. "This council has worked to bring ... accountability back to Dunmore."

"We don't anticipate speaking of a tax increase for the foreseeable future," he added.

Mr. McHale referenced the state of the budget several years ago, where at times, the borough needed to borrow money to make payroll.

At Monday's meeting, he complimented his fellow board members on their contributions in turning the borough around.

"We're not going to take a victory lap, but we're very proud," he said.

In other business:

- Chris Davis was approved as a full-time Department of Public Works employee after working part time.

- Larry Waters was also moved from part time to active reserve status for the Fire Department. The council also congratulated members of the Dunmore football team on their recent success and wished them luck in their bid for the state title Friday.
