A Scranton man accused of selling heroin out of a Moosic motel nearly slipped county detectives when they converged on his vehicle Friday morning.

Catching up with Anthony Brown, 30, 517 W. Market St., Scranton, got a bit easier when he led the detectives with the Lacakwanna County district attorney's office down a dead-end street.

Still, Mr. Brown continued his ill-fated flight into a residential driveway, finally finding himself in handcuffs after one detective stunned him with a Taser.

The chase came after Mr. Brown sold heroin in a purchase arranged by investigators at the Rodeway Inn, police said.

After completing the deal, Mr. Brown pulled his rental car into the road and stopped at a red light at Birney Avenue and Hollenback Street, where detectives surrounded him with their vehicles.

He managed to get around one of the cars, police said, and speed down Hollenback Street, throwing bags of heroin and money out of his window as he drove past Riverside East Elementary Center.

Having taken him into custody in front of a home on Hollenback Street, detectives then took Mr. Brown in for his arraignment on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a school zone, delivery of a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, fleeing or attempting to elude officers and related charges.

He was remanded to the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Thursday.
