SCRANTON — A dog and a cat did not recover after firefighters tried to rescue them from a blaze on one side of a South Side duplex Saturday.
Two dogs and two cats were taken from the house and treated with oxygen on the scene at 301 Birch St., but Scranton Fire Chief Patrick DeSarno said he was told two of the animals did not survive.
“They were treated as best they could by our guys on the scene,” Chief DeSarno said.
The chief did not know where the animals had been taken for treatment. Nobody was home with the dogs and cats when the fire broke out around 5:30 p.m.
City Fire Inspector Shaun Flynn said the accidental fire started in the kitchen.
