HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — State workers and teachers across a swath of central and northeastern Pennsylvania are staying home as cold rain changes over to snow.
Gov. Tom Corbett's office said Wednesday it closed down government offices under his jurisdiction in and around Harrisburg, Reading, Wilkes-Barre and Scranton.
Forecasts of 6 inches or more also shuttered many schools in the region. With the holiday ahead and Monday the start of deer rifle hunting season, some students won't be back in the classroom for a week.
In Scranton, Ed Pikulski says his 9-year-old son Luke went to bed knowing school was cancelled, but woke up in a panic, afraid the lack of snow on the ground meant something changed.
The Robert Morris Elementary School 4th grader asked his dad if officials can un-cancel school.
