Former Dickson City Police Officer Anthony Mariano is suing the borough and other officials to get his job back.
Mr. Mariano, who also named the mayor, police chief and individual borough council members in his suit, says he wasn't given proper notice to grieve his firing. He also is seeking damages, a public apology and reformation of his employment records, according to the lawsuit, which was filed Monday in Lackawanna County Court.
Dickson City hired Mr. Mariano as a police officer in 2004, and he worked for eight years before he was suspended for violation of policies and procedures, and terminated later in April of this year.
The lawsuit states Mr. Mariano was not given notice or allowed the proper grievance procedures to appeal his suspension or termination, and that council members, Police Chief William Bilinski and others intentionally made statements to the public that placed Mr. Mariano in a false light, causing damage to his reputation. The defendants also published that Mr. Mariano was not qualified for employment because of an alleged violation of policies and procedures, statements which the lawsuit claims are false, misleading, defamatory and libelous.
Chief Bilinski said he had not seen the lawsuit yet and could not comment on the subject because it's a personnel issue.
