UNC receives grant for teens

SCRANTON - A private foundation awarded United Neighborhood Centers a $2,000 grant to help support a program for teens.

The Maximus Foundation, known for providing financial assistance to community organizations with projects in youth development, awarded UNC the grant for their teen Leaders-in-Training program.

UNC was one of only two organizations in the state to receive funding this fall, Alison Woody, director of grants and communications with UNC of Northeastern Pennsylvania, said.

Jerry Musheno, vice president of project administration for Maximus, credited UNC's "long standing commitment to the community" as a major reason for the award.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly said the UNC received money from the Maximum Foundation. In fact, it was the Maximus Foundation.

"The residents look forward to their visit and love to spend time with them," marketing director Brenda Conlon said. "It's a great time for everyone."

Located at 45 N. Scott St., the center provides long-term nursing care, rehabilitation therapy and senior living, along with other services.
