Preliminary results of an autopsy performed this morning on a 3-month-old boy found unresponsive in a Stroud Twp. day care center Thursday did not raise cause for suspicion, Monroe County Coroner Bob Allen said.
A forensic pathologist at Lehigh Valley Medical Center did not find any apparent injuries on the body of 3-month-old Jasaan Feliciano, of East Stroudsburg, during an autopsy performed this morning, Mr. Allen said.
Stroud Area Regional Police and West End Ambulance responded to Thompson Family Day Care in Stroud Twp. at 7:12 p.m. Thursday, Mr. Allen said.
After attempting to resuscitate the 3-month-old infant, crews transported him to Pocono Medical Center's emergency room where he arrived at about 7:30 p.m.
At no point did the child begin breathing and at 8:01 p.m. he was pronounced dead in the emergency room, Mr. Allen said.
While this morning's autopsy did not find any apparent injuries on the infant, Mr. Allen said he could not provide the cause and manner of the child's death until he received the results of toxicology tests, which could take 30 to 60 days to complete.
Despite that, Mr. Allen said the child's death was not considered suspicious.
Mr. Allen referred questions regarding the events leading up to the 911 call for the unresponsive child to Stroud Area Regional Police Department.
Stroud Area Regional Police Chief William Parrish said, while an initial press release mistakenly used the word "suspicious" to describe the child's death, the investigation into the death is only an attempt to "put the total picture together."
"'Suspicious' is not the word that really should have been used. Anytime a 3-month-old passes away it's unexpected. Based on that fact we're going to look, in conjunction with the coroner's office and the district attorney's office, into all the facts that could have led to the passing away," he said.
Asked if the child had any medical issues that could have led to his death, Chief Parrish declined to comment citing the ongoing investigation.
