Fifteen people were injured in 48 crashes over the Thanksgiving travel weekend in Lackawanna, Pike, Susquehanna and Wayne counties, state police at Dunmore said.

Five of those crashes from Nov. 21 to Sunday were alcohol-related, state police said.

There were 18 DUI arrests, 368 speeding tickets 112 seat belt warnings 26 seat belt tickets and three-car seat violations, as well as 893 other citations issued over the five-day period, said Lt. Chris Paris, spokesman for state police at Dunmore

"It's always a very busy time for us in this hub of the interstates," said Lt. Paris.

There were no fatal injuries in the jurisdiction for Dunmore-based Troop R, but state police responded to 1,124 crashes that claimed the lives of 13 people and injured 349 more across the commonwealth, state police Commissioner Frank Noonan announced Tuesday.

One woman, Trenadie Leibenguth, died in Wyoming County when the pickup truck in which she was a passenger crashed on Keelersburg Road in Eaton Twp. the night before Thanksgiving. Her boyfriend, Clayton Drew Firth, 34, of Tunkhannock, was charged with vehicular homicide after it was determined he was driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent - nearly double the legal limit.

Police focused on more heavily traveled roads with an increased visible presence over holiday weekends and targeted enforcement areas along major interstates, Lt. Paris said.
