A slim but slick layer of snow laid down on the Scranton area early this morning and has already made for a bit of traffic trouble.
A total of between 1 and 2 inches of snow is expected to fall on most of Lackawanna County, according to the National Weather Service.
As of about 9 a.m., the snowfall remained steady and, according to forecasts, could stay that way into the afternoon with a high temperature near 5 mph.
Though no major problems have been reported to the Lackawanna County Communications Center due to the snow, there were a pair of crashes in Scranton this morning.
One crash at Cedar Avenue and Duncan Street ended with city firefighters pulling a woman and who appeared to be her two adolescent daughters from a Honda Civic that had run over the sidewalk and up an embankment at about 8 a.m.
The three appeared uninjured as they walked from the vehicle to a city police car to stay warm.
Another crash occurred in the 1800 block of South Webster Avenue where a car reportedly slid into a tree. Dispatches from the scene indicated that one individual was injured.
A crash on Interstate 476 between Taylor and South Abington Twp. has closed the right lane of the highway and slowed traffic, according to the state Department of Transportation's website.
The details of what led to the two crashes and the identities of the drivers involved were not immediately available.
