Four inducted into DV Hall of Fame

Jon Almquist, the late Henry Arneberg, Jo Benson and Kim Pearce were the honorees at this year's Delaware Valley High School Hall of Fame induction banquet. The event, at the Riverview Inn in Matamoras, included a reception, dinner and ceremony. Entertainment was provided by the Delaware Valley drama club.

Jon, of the class of 1975 and a Penn State graduate, is administrator for Fairfax County Public Schools athletic training program, where he coordinates athletic training health care services for more than 28,000 athletes. Named Athletic Trainer of the Year by Northern Virginia Sports Medicine, Jon is an adjunct professor at George Mason University.

The late Mr. Arneberg graduated from Milford High School and East Stroudsburg State College. He excelled in basketball and football before beginning a legendary coaching career. Bliss Arneberg Ireland accepted her father's award. A number of athletes whom he coached attended.

Jo, of the class of 1983, owns and operates Western Stage Props, a leading company in western arts equipment. She is assistant producer of the equestrian division of the Rose Bowl Parade and production coordinator of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Active in her Sandy Valley, Nev., community, Jo has donated time and effort to a school for Native American children.

Kim, of the class of 1974, is an honors graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia. He teaches art at the New York State Correctional Facility in Fishkill. A local landscape and portrait artist, he has created many works honoring those whose lives were lost on Sept. 11, 2001. He also creates portraits for parents who have suffered the loss of a child.

Closing remarks were provided by Dr. Peg Schaffer, director of elementary education.

Super students

David Abdalla of Dickson City and Marie Allen of Dunmore, both seniors at King's College, participated in the eighth annual Forum of the McGowan School of Business held at the Union League of Philadelphia. David is majoring in business administration and human resources management. Marie is majoring in human resources management. ... Alan Charles of Montrose took part in the annual Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation in Washington, D.C. Alan, a junior environmental science major, was one of eight students from Susquehanna University to attend the event. He is a 2010 graduate of Montrose Area High School.

High notes

Old Forge School District faculty and staff have been having a "No Shave November" to benefit staff member Robert Giacometti, who is recovering from an illness. Containers have been placed schoolwide to see which class can raise the most money. Dress-down days to classes are awarded.

Participants include Joseph Barbetti, Frank Berardelli, William Butler, Kyle Calachino, Kory Coyne, Neil Dadurka, Joe DeStafano, Chris Gatto, Chris Guida, Patrick McLane, Dan Mozeleski, Shawn Nee, Nick Parlanti and Joe Sylvester.
